Algebra II: Domain and Range 2

by Texas Instruments

Objectives

  • Students will be able to identify the domain and range of a relation from its graph.
  • Students will be able to write symbolic expressions to describe the domain and range of a relation.
  • Students will be able to recognize that different relations can have the same domain or the same range.
  • Students will create a graph with a given domain and range.

Vocabulary

  • Domain
  • Range
  • Infinity
  • Discrete
  • Continuous
  • Interval notation
  • Relation
  • Function

About the Lesson

Begin by dragging point P along the points in a scatter plot. From the ordered pairs, determine the domain and range. By dragging a point along the graph, determine the domain and range of several different relations. Then compare domains and ranges that are discrete to those that are continuous over an interval. Finally, sketch graphs given a domain and range.
