Slope as Rate

This lesson is designed to help students think of slope as a rate of change. As a result, students will be prepared to move to applications of linear functions where the change in one quantity is proportional to the change in another quantity.

Analyzing Country Data

This activity involves sample listings of the ages of 200 people from each of three countries: U.S., Kenya and Japan. As an extension, students create a sample of their “own” country and put together a summary of the country based on the sample.

Reflections and Rotations

Students will reflect figures over the x- and y-axes. By studying what happens to the coordinates of the pre-image and image points, they will write rules for reflecting points over the axes.
