How can we promote students’ understanding of important statistical concepts like margin of error, P-value, and statistical significance? We’ll explore three simulation activities that illuminate the inherent variability in random sampling and randomized experiments, and show how that variability connects to the logic of confidence intervals and hypothesis tests. Along the way, we will discuss the appropriate scope of inference for a given study based on how the data was produced.
