Activity Overview

This Computer Algebra System (CAS) activity encourages students to perform basic arithmetic operations on matrices, and solving a set of equations using CAS.

During the Activity

Distribute the pages to the class.

Follow the Activity procedures:

Review the addition, subtraction, and multiplication of matrices using CAS

Realize that matrix multiplication is not commutative

Solve a set of simultaneous equations using matrices and CAS

After the Activity

Students' answer questions on the Activity sheet.

Review student results:

As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging

Re-teach concepts as necessary
