Electron Charge Lab

Activity Overview

Student may experimentally determine the magnitude of the elementary charge on an electron.

Before the Activity

This lab appeared in The Science Teacher magazine, April 2002 edition.

During the Activity

The file attached in the article submission to The Science Teacher. I use this activity to teacher students in first year chemistry about the mole concept. Then I repeat the activity in AP Chemistry and talk about the electrochemistry.

After the Activity

Review student results:

  • As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
  • Re-teach concepts as necessary
