Activity Overview

Students examine data and make graphs to represent the data. They interpret the data and answer questions. They also learn to calculate percentages and angle measures.

Before the Activity

  • See the attached PDF file for detailed instructions for this activity
  • Print pages 49 - 53 from the attached Student PDF file for the class
  • During the Activity

Distribute the pages to the class.

  • Calculate the sales for each restaurant as a percent of the total sales, convert the percentages to degrees to make a circle graph of the sales of the restaurants
  • Make a circle graph of the number of outlets of restaurants
  • Make a circle graph of the sales per outlet
  • Compare the three circle graphs
  • Find which restaurant has the largest sales per outlet
  • Maintain a log of trips made to fast food restaurants and rank factors that decide which fast food restaurants you visit
