Investigating Boyle's Law

Activity Overview

In this experiment, students will gather data with a Go Direct® sensor to learn of the relationship between pressure and volume of a gas.

About the Lesson

The procedure in the Student document includes directions for using the Vernier Go® Direct (GDX) and the TI-Nspire CX II.  Note that this activity can be done with either the Vernier Go Direct® or Vernier LabQuest Gas Pressure sensor which can also be used with the TI-Nspire CX.

Students will:

  • Use a Gas Pressure Sensor and a gas syringe to measure the pressure of an air sample at several different volumes.
  • Determine the relationship between gas pressure and volume.
  • Use the results to predict the pressure at other volumes.
