Connecting Factors and Zeros

Activity Overview

Students will determine if a quadratic formula is factorable, then they will factor the equation, set each factor equal to 0, and solve for X. (Categories include linear functions, graphing, and factoring.)

Before the Activity

Students should have access to either the TI-83, TI-83 Plus, or TI-84 Plus family of calculators.

During the Activity

Students will be shown how to factor quadratic equations on the graphing calculator. Then they will practice factoring by themselves.

After the Activity

Review student answers

As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
