Texas 8th Grade Math EOC Exam Strategies With the TI-84 Plus CE Graphing Calculator

This workshop is designed for 8th Grade mathematics educators in Texas who are either beginning to use the TI-84 Plus CE graphing calculator or who want to learn more to drive student success on the Texas 8th Grade Mathematics EOC exam.

Educators will cover the key elements of teaching with the TI-84 Plus CE and TI-SmartView™ CE emulator software for the TI-84 Plus Family, and the workshop will focus on helping students use the TI-84 Plus CE to better understand key topics on the Texas 8th Grade Mathematics EOC exam.

By the end of the workshop, participants should feel comfortable with:

  • Leveraging the TI-84 Plus CE for exam questions in key reporting categories, such as Computations and Algebraic Relationships; Geometry and Measurement; and Data Analysis
  • Analyzing and solving a wide range of sample problems using graphs, tables and calculator tools
  • Exploring premade activities that reinforce technology skills and deepen student understanding of key EOC exam topics

Overview

This in-person workshop is available in one- and two-day options to accommodate educator-specific needs. A half-day workshop option is also available. The two-day workshop offers a more extensive exploration of topics and strategies. A virtual workshop is also available in multiple two- or three-hour sessions.

  • Overview of the TI-84 Plus CE, including the TestGuard™ app
  • Exploration of key graphing features, such as graphing functions and relations, analyzing functions by finding points of interest, and using the trace feature
  • Coverage of key statistics features, such as entering, ordering and graphing data, and determining a least squares regression line
workshop-2-day
  • Introduction to the TI-SmartView™ CE emulator, along with coverage of additional TI-84 Plus CE technology skills
  • Exposure to entering and evaluating numerical expressions, including strategies for saving time and avoiding mistakes
  • Exploration of expression and equation tools, including strategies for checking for equivalence, storing variables and using the numeric solver feature

This workshop focuses on using the TI-84 Plus CE to improve student learning and conceptual understanding of key content areas for the Texas 8th Grade Mathematics EOC exam.
