Note: Registration closes one week before the start of the workshop.
Workshop overview
This workshop introduces key concepts in precalculus using TI-Nspire™ CX II graphing calculators, developed through dynamic interactive technology explorations. While the focus will be on the topics outlined in the AP® Precalculus course and exam description, the content will be useful for all precalculus educators.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be familiar with performing calculations, graphing and analyzing the behavior of functions, modeling mathematical relationships, and using dynamic technology to investigate real phenomena.
6-hour Workshop
Content includes:
An introduction to the AP® Precalculus framework alongside TI technology to show how graphing calculators support conceptual understanding of rates of change, functions (polynomial, rational, exponential and logarithmic), modeling, and trigonometry without replacing mathematical reasoning.
Modeling core instructional strategies using multiple representations (symbolic, graphical and numerical) with TI tools, focusing on high-impact lessons and activities that are classroom-ready so participants can implement them immediately.
Balancing calculator-active and calculator-inactive instruction by demonstrating when technology enhances learning and when it is intentionally withheld to strengthen algebraic reasoning. With the use of TI teacher software, participants will learn methods to teach students through demonstration and observation, strengthen understanding, and enhance engagement.
12-hour Workshop
Includes all 6-hour workshop content, plus:
Exploring a select set of AP®-style modeling tasks using TI technology, emphasizing interpretation, validation, and alignment to exam and high-stakes testing expectations.
Sharing efficient calculator workflows and time-saving strategies that help students approach multiple-choice and free-response questions with confidence.
A deep dive into Unit 4 of the curriculum and discussions on what AP® Precalculus is missing compared to their Precalculus and Precalculus Honors counterparts. TI technology will be used to demonstrate functions for topics like conic sections, vectors, matrices and parametric equations.
What to expect from your virtual workshop experience
Hands-on, interactive professional learning held in 3-hour time blocks.
You will receive the workshop training materials and online calculator license via email before the first session. If you selected the option for a TI graphing calculator, it will be sent to the mailing address provided.
Time between sessions to try new strategies, see how they work, and return with questions for the next session.
Receive a certificate of attendance that may be accepted as professional development credit from your school or district.
