You're Probably Right, It's Wrong - TI-83

In this activity, students perform a simulation to guess answers on a test and determine the experimental probability of passing the test. They then compare it with the theoretical probability.

Function of a Circle

Students use Cabri,Jr. to construct a circle and its radius, measure both the circumference and the radius, and then collect data showing the relationship between the two. Using the TI-Navigator students input their data into lists and see the scatterplot of the collected data displayed on a coo...

The Letter Product Game

This activity will encourage students' powers of deduction through a word game. This will allow a review of factoring integers. A simple extension allows a classroom discussion that will evolve into the Zero Product Theorem, essential to the technique of solving polynomial equations by factoring.

House

Students use the Cabri Geometry™ II Plus software to invert, rotate and dilate a figure.

Points, Lines and Slopes (Oh My!) - 84

In this activity students will explore the relationship between coordinates of points and locations on the coordinate plane, the relationships of lines with their equations, slopes and y-intercepts, and lastly, the slopes of parallel and perpendicular lines.

Sequence Patterns

Sonya Kovalevsky(1850-1891)was fascinated by infinite sequences. Fill in the spaces to continue the sequences in the attached document.

Shark Attack

Students use the Transformation Graphing application to separate what effect each change in the Point-Slope equation has on the graph.

Classifying Quadrilaterals

Students receive two Cabri Jr. files of quadrilaterals on a coordinate plane. They use their knowledge of quadrilaterals to give each one the most precise name. They may find the length and/or slope of the sides using the measuring tools of Cabri Jr. to assist in their classification.

Watching Your Weight - TI-83

In this activity, students examine how moving a weight up along a board affects the downward force on the board. They explore how children with different weights can be balanced on a seesaw.

Midpoint Formula Discovery

Step by step instructions are given for the students to draw a segment, find the midpoint, and label the coordinates of the two endpoints and the midpoint. The students then record the data in a table for various segments. Based on the table students will discover how to find the midpoint of a se...

Distance - Time Graphs

CBR™ and Graphing Calculators allow a conceptual understanding of distance-time graphs.Created in conjunction with California State University Bakersfield Professor Dr. P. Michael Lutz through funds provided by the California Mathematics Project.

Linear Equations for Which the Sum of the Coordinates is Constant

This activity allows students to explore situations in which points with a constant sum of x-coordinate and y-coordinate are graphed. Through the use of TI-Navigator to see the results of the entire class, students can determine that an oblique line is formed from such points. This oblique line...

Writing Equations of Parabolas in Vertex Form

Students use their knowledge of the vertex form of a quadratic equation to graph parabolas, given a specific move to make.

Writing linear equations to form shapes

Students use their knowledge about writing linear equations to graph lines that form a given shape.
