Solution 34233: Computing the Dot Product on the TI-36X Pro Scientific Calculator.

How do I calculate the dot product on the TI-36x Pro scientific calculator?

Example:

Find the dot product of vectors <0.5, 8> and <2, -3>

First, define the vectors.

• Define vector [u] = [ 0.5  8 ].
• Press [2nd] [vector].
• Press [right arrow] [right arrow] [1].
• Press [right arrow] [enter] [enter].
• Press [.] [5] [enter] [8] [enter].
• Press [clear].

Second, define vector [v] = [ 2  3 ].

• Press [right arrow] [right arrow] [2].
• Press [right arrow] [enter] [enter].
• Press [2] [enter] [3] [enter].
• Press [clear].

Calculate the dot product using the vectors.

• Press [2nd] [vector] [right arrow] [1].
• Press [2nd] [vector] [1].
• Press [2nd] [,].
• Press [2nd] [vector] [2].
• Press [)] [enter]. The answer is 25.
