Solution 10379: Finding the Zero of a Function using the TI-82.

How do I find the zero of a function with the TI-82?

Use the root instruction to find the zero on the TI-82. Please refer to the example below.

Example:

Find the zero of y=2x+4

Solution:

Graph the equation:

1) Press [Y=].
2) Input the equation.
3) Press [GRAPH].

Find the zero:

1) Press [2nd][CALC][2].
2) Move the cursor to the x value to specify the lower bound using the left or right cursor and press [ENTER].
3) Move the cursor to the x value to specify the upper bound using the left or right cursor and press [ENTER].
The screen will show the zero, which is (-2, 0).
