Activity Overview
Students discover the chain rule through observations of derivatives of composite functions.
Before the Activity
Students need to have a CAS handheld, and understand composite functions in order to complete this activity.
During the Activity
Students work with a partner to complete this activity.
After the Activity
Discuss student results as a group to ensure students clearly understand the chain rule. Then provide additional practice problems prior to assigning homework.
