Angle-Side-Side Exploration

Activity Overview

Does knowing two sides and a non-included angle of a triangle guarantee it is a unique triangle? This activity will allow students to discover the answer by moving a point on a triangle to determine if another triangle given the same sides and non-included angle is possible.

Before the Activity

Students should have been introduced to triangle congruence theorems such as SSS, SAS, AAS and ASA. Students will need to know how to change pages on a TI-nspire document, measure an angle and segment, and grab and move a point.

During the Activity

Students will follow the directions on the calculator and complete the supplemental worksheet as they progress through this activity.

After the Activity

An extension is provided at the end of the activity. Students are to try to find a second triangle given that angle A is an obtuse angle.
