When: Tuesday, May 5, 2020 | 7 p.m. Central time
Technology: TI-84 Plus family, TI-Nspire™ CX family
Presenters: Lindsay Gold, Mike Houston

Discover activities to get your students excited and thinking about the mathematics they’re learning in the classroom by applying real-world financial concepts to current mathematical tasks.

Join this webinar to explore financial literacy using both TI-84 Plus CE and TI-Nspire™ CX II graphing calculators.

Presenters will demonstrate how to incorporate financial literacy into mathematics by:

  • Using spreadsheets as an algebraic tool for decision making
  • Suggestions for activities using TI-84 Plus and TI-Nspire™ graphing calculators
  • Writing functions that describe a relationship between two quantities
  • Using units as a way to understand problems and guide the solution of multi-step problems; choosing and interpreting units consistently in formulas; and choosing and interpreting the scale and the origin in graphs and data displays (if time permits)

“This can connect throughout the year. I can mention it once when discussing linear functions and again with exponential, all while building their financial literacy and calculator skills. This is soooo versatile!” — Mary Leach, Arkansas Arts Academy (Arkansas)
