Solution 34712: Graphing a Polar Equation on the TI-83 Plus and TI-84 Plus Family of Graphing Calculators.

How can I graph an equation in polar mode on the TI-83 Plus and TI-84 Plus family of graphing calculators?

Polar equations can be graphed in either Radian or Degree mode. Follow the steps below to graph the equation r=1-sinq

Example :

1) Press [mode] [↓] [↓] [enter].
2) Press [↓] [→] [→] [enter].

3) Press [Y=].
4) Clear any existing entries with [clear].
5) Press [1] [-] [sin] [X,T,θ,n] [ ) ]

6) Press [WINDOW] and enter the following settings:

θmin=0
θmax=2π
θstep=π/24
Xmin=-3
Xmax=3
Xscl=1
Ymin=-3
Ymax=1
Yscl=1

With these settings the calculator will evaluate the function from θ=0 to θ=2π in increments of π/24.

7) Press [GRAPH].

The following graph will be displayed.

Please see the TI-83 Plus and TI-84 Plus Family guidebooks for additional information.
