Solution 10359: Unexpected Results Converting from Binary to Hexadecimal on the TI-85 and TI-86 Graphing Calculator.

Why do I experience unexpected results when converting from binary to hexadecimal on the TI-85 and TI-86 graphing calculators?

The largest number represented in binary mode on the TI-85 and TI-86 is 0111111111111111 (32767 in DEC). The first position is used to represent positive or negative. For example, 1100111101010111 is treated as -12457 in DEC instead of 53079 in DEC.

On the TI-85 and TI-86, the ranges of number, which can be represented by HEX, OCT, BIN and DEC are different. Therefore, 53079 (DEC) can be represented in HEX but not in BIN.

Please see the TI-85 and TI-86 guidebooks for additional information.
