Solution 10426: Finding the Intersection of Functions on the TI-85 or TI-86.

How do I find the intersection of functions on the TI-85 or TI-86?

The example below will demonstrate how to find the intersection of two functions on a TI-85 or TI-86.

Example: Find the intersection of the following:

y=3x+1 and y=-2x+4

Solution: Graph the equations:

1) Press [GRAPH] [F1].
2) Input the equations.
3) Press [2nd] [F5].

To find the intersection:

1) Press [MORE] [F1] [MORE] [F3].First curve?, press [ENTER].
2) The screen will show Second curve?, press [ENTER].
3) The screen will show Guess, move the cursor close to the intersection and press [ENTER].

The screen will now show the intersection, which is (0.6, 2.8).
