I Can Guess Your Numbers

Activity Overview

Students use the calculator to improve their number sense, analysis, and reasoning. They find numbers, given their product.

Before the Activity

Review the rules for divisibility

See the attached PDF file for detailed instructions for this activity

Print pages 6 - 10 from the attached PDF file for your class

During the Activity

Distribute the pages to the class.

Follow the activity procedures:

Ask students to find any six numbers between 10 and 20 and determine their product

Enter the product on the calculator and using the divisibility rules on the transparency, divide the number, and record the factors

Use the factors and mathematical reasoning to find the six numbers

Repeat the activity with other six numbers

After the Activity

Students complete the Student Activity pages.

Review student results

As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging

Re-teach concepts as necessary
