Sequence of Bounces Activity - Modeling Motion

Activity Overview

This activity serves as a follow-up to Activity 12 in the Explorations book, Modeling Motion: High School Math Activities with the CBR by Linda Antinone, Sam Gough, and Jill Gough (Texas Instruments Incorporated, 1997).

Before the Activity

If you are using the TI-Navigator System with the TI-73 you will need the attached .pdf file.
Students will explore the rebound heights of a ball and develop a sequence that will predict the rebound height of subsequent bounces. They will also find the total distance that the ball travels.

Have students complete Activity 12from the EXPLORATIONS book first.

During the Activity

The attached LearningCheck™ appvar and resource files extend concepts from the activity above. These files can be sent to your class using TI-Navigator™.

After the Activity

Review student results:

  • As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
  • Re-teach concepts as necessary
