Activity Overview

Use the TI-Navigator™ to Investigate Mathematics in Forensic Science

Before the Activity

At the beginning of the activity, pair students and have them measure each others humerus bone (radius bone, femur bone, femur bone, or tibia bone).

Next have the students measure their heights.

During the Activity

Please follow attachment directions for the TI-Navigator to investigate mathematics in Forensic Science.

After the Activity

Have students observe whether their measurement points are close to the female or male equation line. If not, why?

Compare the other bones: radius, femur, or tibia.

Then identify the bone length which gives the closest measure of their height.

How does the calculator LinReg equation differ for the given equations? Why?
