Students are given a situation of water draining out of a cylindrical tank in order to explain the process of solving related rates questions.
Students are introduced to the topic of related rates. Students will work through a problem step-by-step to understand the process of solving problems involving related rates.
A second example problem further explains the process. This example of two cars leaving is a typical Pythagorean problem that needs to be carefully differentiated implicitly so as not to forget the Chain Rule.
Students will also apply what was learned to various real-world and graphical problems.
