Interpreting Confidence Intervals

Activity Overview

This activity is used in conjuntion with the famous M&M's experiment for introducing confidence intervals in AP Statistics. Navigator is used to allow each student to contribute the endpoints of a CI obtained from their own sample of M&M's. Quick polls are used to questions student confidence in their predictions.

Before the Activity

Students must be provided a sample of M&M's, from which they will construct a 95% confidence interval for the population proportion of blue M&M's.

During the Activity

The attached file provides settings for allowing students to contribute points which represent the endpoints of the confidence interval.

After the Activity

Review student answers:

  • As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
  • Re-teach concepts as necessary
