Application of Maximum-Minimum Problems

Activity Overview

Students will use a graphing approach to find the minimum costs of running a new line from a power station to a point on an island. Students will begin with a scaled drawing and follow the prompts. They will also manually collect data and find a curve of best fit.

Before the Activity

This activity can be used as an example by the teacher or it can be used by students. If worked by students teacher will need to help them set up a Lists and Spreadsheets page to manually collect data and find a curve of best fit.

During the Activity

The activity might move more smoothly if students work in groups of two. Students will work with Graphs and Geometry, Lists and Spreadsheets and Notes pages.
