Connecting science and mathematics in the middle grades with TI-Nspire™ technology and the TI-Nspire™ Navigator™ system

Designed for educators who are just beginning to use TI-Nspire™ technology, this workshop introduces the TI-Nspire™ CX handheld, sensor-based data collection and the TI-Nspire™ CX Navigator™ system in the context of middle grades science and mathematics.

Educators will learn a wide range of TI-Nspire™ technology skills focused on data collection and analysis, while exploring strategies to effectively integrate the TI-Nspire™ CX Navigator™ system into their science and mathematics classrooms.

Overview

This workshop is available in one- to six-day configurations to accommodate educator-specific needs. A half-day workshop option is also available.

workshop-1-day
  • Overview of the TI-Nspire™ CX handheld, including general calculator functionality and interactive TI-Nspire™ simulations.
  • Introduction to the TI-Nspire™ CX Navigator™ system, including the Live Presenter, Quick Poll and Class Capture features.
  • Data collection and analysis with the Vernier EasyTemp® USB temperature sensor and built-in Vernier EasyData™ application.
workshop-2-day
  • Overview of basic features of TI-Nspire™ CX Navigator™ Teacher Software.
  • Exploration of dynamic, interactive TI-Nspire™ CX handheld simulations and data-collection activities involving the Calculator-Based Ranger 2™ (CBR 2) motion sensor.
  • Introduction to formative assessment strategies, including creating TI-Nspire™ assessment documents.
workshop-3-day
  • Broader content coverage across the middle grades science and mathematics curricula, with opportunities for differentiation based on educators' needs.
  • Data collection and analysis with additional Vernier sensors, such as the gas pressure sensor, dual-range force sensor and conductivity probe.
  • Data aggregation with the TI-Nspire™ CX Navigator™ system, where students' data sets are collected, combined and sent to the entire class for further analysis.
