Algebra I with TI-Nspire™ technology and the
TI-Nspire™ Navigator™ system

Designed for educators who are just beginning to use TI-Nspire™ technology, this workshop introduces the
TI-Nspire™ CX handheld and TI-Nspire™ CX Navigator™ system in the context of algebra I.

Educators will learn a wide range of TI-Nspire™ technology skills and explore strategies to effectively integrate the
TI-Nspire™ CX Navigator™ system into their algebra I classrooms.

Overview

This workshop is available in one- to six-day configurations to accommodate educator-specific needs.

workshop-1-day
  • Introduction to the TI-Nspire™ CX handheld, including general calculator, graphing and statistical functionality.
  • Overview of the basic features of TI-Nspire™ CX Navigator™ Teacher Software.
  • Introduction to the TI-Nspire™ CX Navigator™ system.
workshop-2-day
  • Exploration of dynamic, interactive TI-Nspire™ lessons focused on key areas of the algebra I curriculum, such as reasoning with equations and inequalities, interpreting functions, and linear models.
  • Opportunities to practice using basic TI-Nspire™ CX Navigator™ features such as Live Presenter, Quick Poll and Class Capture.
  • Introduction to formative assessment strategies, including creating TI-Nspire™ assessment documents.

  • Broader content coverage across the algebra I curriculum.
  • Extended opportunities to practice additional TI-Nspire™ CX Navigator™ system skills, including organizing students' work in the Portfolio Workspace.
  • Exploration of online content and professional development resources to further support the successful implementation of the TI-Nspire™ CX Navigator™ system.

This workshop addresses key algebra concepts through dynamic, interactive lessons with the TI-Nspire™ handheld and Teacher Software, with a special emphasis on visualization tools involving expressions, equations, functions and inequalities.

Algebra I
Creating equations; reasoning with equations and inequalities; interpreting functions; building functions; linear, quadratic and exponential models; interpreting categorical and quantitative data.
TI-Nspire™ handheld skills
Calculator, graphing and statistical functionality; exploring dynamic TI-Nspire™ investigations; experiencing the TI-Nspire™ CX Navigator™ system from students' perspectives.
TI-Nspire™ Navigator™ system skills
Creating a class; sending and collecting a TI-Nspire™ document; monitoring progress using the Class Capture, Quick Poll and Live Presenter features; organizing work in the Portfolio Workspace.
Inequalities
Graph and explore simple inequalities on a number line; graph and explore linear inequalities
Formative assessment
Compare the characteristics of linear and exponential functions
Statistics & Probability
Assessing student understanding using the Class Capture and Quick Poll features, analyzing student responses in the Review Workspace, discussing strategies for adjusting instruction.
