  • Get tips on how to fully utilize the TI-SmartView™ software.

Session 2 | Developing Deeper Conceptual Understanding to Prepare for the Digital SAT® Exam With the TI-84 Plus CE

  • Students who only excel at procedural fluency (i.e. memorizing steps and formulas) will have a tough time on the math section of the redesigned SAT® exam. They need a deeper understanding of the concepts. Learn to leverage the TI-84 Plus CE graphing calculator to help meet this goal by providing activities and ideas that promote conceptual understanding.

Session 3 | Exploring Topics in Precalculus With the TI-84 Plus CE: Polynomial and Rational Functions

  • Learn the makeup of an Advanced Placement® course and, in particular, what is important to know about AP® Precalculus.
  • Explore insights about the exam and ways TI technology can be useful, such as helping students:
    • Develop both procedural and conceptual fluency.
    • Interpret and connect multiple representations.
    • Get engaged in interpreting and reasoning about mathematical concepts and relationships.
  • Discover how TI technology can also deepen student understanding of rate of change, end behavior, asymptotes and function transformations.
  • Strategies for engaging students in these mathematical practices for AP® Precalculus will be shared during the four sessions in the AP® Precalculus strand.

Session 4 | Valuable Tips for Using TI-Nspire™ CX II Technology (Calculator and Software)

  • Get an overview of TI-Nspire™ CX II graphing calculator, including general calculator, graphing and statistical functionality.
  • Explore dynamic and interactive lessons for algebra I and algebra II, geometry, precalculus and calculus, and statistics.
  • Learn the basic features of the TI-Nspire™ CX Premium Teacher Software.

11:05 a.m. – 12:35 p.m. | Second morning sessions

Session 5 | Exploring Middle Grades Topics With the TI-84 Plus Family of Graphing Calculators

  • Learn about the features for modeling with multiple representations.
  • Explore interactive lessons that make connections between ratios, proportional relationships and linear functions.

Session 6 | Analyzing and Interpreting Data in a Vertical Curriculum With the TI-84 Plus CE

Join this session as we explore how the topics below can help students move through a vertical curriculum, from middle grades math through algebra II and beyond, including:

  • Analyzing and interpreting univariate data: Representing data with dot plots, box and whisker plots, histograms; comparing center and spread of data sets.
  • Use of the mean and standard deviation to fit a data set into a normal distribution, including qualitative and quantitative data, and comparing sets of data and identifying outliers.
  • Interpreting bivariate data: Represent bivariate data on a scatter plot, describe the relationship, and interpret the slope and intercept of a linear model in the context of the data.

Session 7 | Exploring Topics in Precalculus With the TI-84 Plus CE: Exponential Functions, Logarithmic Functions and Regression

  • Learn how the TI-84 Plus CE is used to investigate the relationship between exponential and logarithmic functions, inverse and composite functions, and the concept of regression as a way to find a model for contextual data.

Session 8 | Integrating TI Technology for Emergent Bilinguals

  • "¿Cómo se usa esto?" Learn how activities and video resources can be integrated in an ELL/ESL classroom when using the TI-84 Plus CE Python or TI-Nspire™ CX II graphing calculators.

12: 35 – 1:20 p.m. | Lunch

1:20 – 2:50 p.m. | First afternoon sessions

Session 9 | Building Concepts: Statistics and Probability With TI-Nspire™ CX Family of Graphing Calculators

  • Designed for middle grades mathematics educators who are beginning with or already using TI-Nspire™ CX technology, this workshop focuses on strategies for engaging students in new ways of visualizing and thinking about statistics and probability.
  • Connect mathematical concepts through a coherent story within and across grades, and in the vertical alignment of concepts.
  • Leverage technology to enhance visualization in support of learning and developing concepts.
  • Implement effective teaching practices to support developing concepts and empower learners to drive the conversation by asking and answering questions of others.

Session 10 | Advanced Tips With the TI-84 Plus CE: Data Collection in Science and Math Classrooms

  • Get an overview of the TI-84 Plus CE, including data collection with the Vernier EasyTemp® sensor and CBR™ 2 motion sensor.
  • Explore data analysis through the development of mathematical models.

Session 11 | Exploring Topics in Precalculus With the TI-84 Plus CE: Trigonometric and Polar Functions
