What to expect from your T³™ Regional Summit:

 

  • Six hours of hands-on, interactive professional learning.
  • Receive your TI technology at the summit site.
  • Receive a Certificate of Participation which may be accepted for school or district professional development credit.
  • During online registration, you will select from one of four breakout sessions offered during each time slot.
  • A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
  • We will follow local protocols and safety recommendations and request that all attendees do the same for the health of all in attendance.
  • If circumstances change and we need to cancel the summit, we will notify all registrants as soon as possible and registration fees will be refunded in full.

Session 1 | Valuable Tips for the TI-84 Plus Graphing Family and TI-SmartView™ Emulator (Calculator and Software)

  • Get creative and cool essential ideas to utilize the TI-84 Plus graphing calculator and its color version, TI-84 Plus CE, much more effectively. See how to use the TI-84 Plus CE as an evaluator of complex expressions easily, trace on a graph and table simultaneously, quickly evaluate the quadratic formula, store window settings, quickly investigate transformation graphing with lists, and more. Plus, get tips on how to fully utilize the TI-SmartView™ software.
  • Overview of the TI-84 Plus CE (color) graphing calculator, basic computation, graphing and functionality.
  • Discover how this member of the TI-84 Plus graphing family is different than previous TI-84 Plus family graphing calculators.
  • Effective use of the TI-SmartView™ CE emulator software.

Session 2 | Valuable Tips for Using TI-Nspire™ CX Technology (Calculator and Software)

  • Overview of the TI-Nspire™ CX graphing calculator, including general calculator, graphing and statistical functionality.
  • Exploration of dynamic, interactive lessons for algebra I, geometry, algebra II, precalculus, calculus and statistics.
  • Introduction to basic features of the teacher software.

Session 3 | Developing Deeper Conceptual Understanding to Prepare for the SAT® Exam (Calculator and Software)

  • Students who only excel at procedural fluency (memorizing steps and formulas) will have a tough time on the math section of the redesigned SAT® exam. They need a deeper understanding of the concepts. We can leverage TI technology to help meet this goal by providing activities and ideas that promote conceptual understanding.
  • This session includes both TI-84 Plus CE and TI-Nspire™ CX technologies.

Session 4 | Learning To Code With Python and TI Graphing Technology

  • This session is designed for educators interested in introducing coding to their students using the TI-84 Plus CE Python or TI-Nspire™ CX II graphing calculators.
  • Building upon the lessons from the 10 Minutes of Code, the session introduces the basics of coding principles, including logic, selection statements, loops, etc.
  • The principles of coding will be connected to many concepts in the math and science curriculum to increase student understanding.
  • By the end, you should be comfortable with using Python and the transferrable skills to move to the next stage in coding.

Session 5 | Exploring Algebra Topics With TI-84 Plus CE Technology

Utilizing the TI-84 Plus CE graphing calculator, we will explore topics such as:

  • Linear functions and systems
  • Functions and relations
  • Quadratic, exponential, radical and rational functions
  • Probability

Session 6 | Exploring Algebra Topics With TI-Nspire™ CX Technology

Utilizing TI-Nspire™ CX technology, we will explore topics such as:

  • Linear functions and systems
  • Functions and relations
  • Quadratic, exponential, radical and rational functions
  • Probability

Session 7 | Learning To Code With the TI-Innovator™ Hub (TI-84 Plus and TI-Nspire™ CX Families of Graphing Calculators)

  • This session is designed for educators interested in introducing coding to their students using the TI-Innovator™ Hub.
  • Extend the lessons seen in the 10 Minutes of Code with the TI-Innovator™ Hub to excite students in learning the code to control the TI-Innovator™ Hub and the built-in sensors, including light and sound.
  • Engage your students with the latest technology, preparing them for the next stage to explore real-world STEM applications.

Session 8 | Developing Deeper Conceptual Understanding To Prepare for the ACT® Exam (Calculator and Software)

Session 9 | Leveraging TI Technology To Support College and Career Readiness

  • Whether your students have completed their math classes or are currently enrolled in algebra II or another capstone/exit course, the appropriate and strategic use of TI technology can support student learning as they prepare for the next step.
  • Explore how to help students visualize concepts and make faster, stronger connections between equations, data and graphs.
  • Join us for this hands-on experience of instructional strategies, and leave with information about access to free tutorials, videos, test-taking strategies, and other classroom resources.
  • This session includes both TI-84 Plus CE and TI-Nspire™ CX technologies.

Session 10 | Advanced Tips With TI Technology: Data Collection in Science and Math Classrooms With TI-Nspire™ CX II and TI-84 Plus CE Technology (Calculator and Software)

  • Overview of the TI-Nspire™ CX II and TI-84 Plus CE graphing calculators, including data collection with the Vernier EasyTemp® sensor and CBR™ 2 motion sensor.
  • Data analysis through the development of mathematical models.

Session 11 | Topics in Precalculus Through Calculus With the TI-Nspire™ CX II Graphing Calculator

Explore the following topics in this session focused on teaching precalculus through calculus with TI-Nspire™ CX technologies and making sure students area ready for the AP® Calculus exam, including:

  • Tangent line approximations, exploring the relationship between a function and its derivatives, the relationship between integration and the area between a curve and the x-axis.
  • Discussion of strategies to prepare students for the AP® Calculus exam.

Session 12 | Making Math and Science Meaningful With the TI-Innovator™Rover

  • This session is designed for teachers interested in introducing the TI-Innovator™Rover to their students.
  • We will highlight lessons that can include topics that will engage your students in new and exciting ways such as:
    • The relationship between distance, rate and time.
    • Designing and measuring a segmented path.
  • This session includes both TI-84 Plus CE and TI-Nspire™CX technologies.



2:50 – 4:10 p.m. | Second afternoon sessions


Session 13 | Analyzing and Interpreting Data in Vertical Curriculum With TI-Nspire™ CX Technology

Join this session as we explore how the topics below can help students move through a vertical curriculum from middle grades math through algebra II and beyond, including:

  • Analyzing and interpreting univariate data — representing data with dot plots, box and whisker plots, histograms; comparing center and spread of data sets.
  • Use of the mean and standard deviation to fit a data set into a normal distribution including qualitative and quantitative data and comparing sets of data, outliers.
  • Interpreting bivariate data — Represent bivariate data on a scatter plot, describe the relationship, and interpret the slope and intercept of a linear model in the context of the data.

Session 16 | STEM Camps, Clubs and Classroom Projects With the TI-Innovator™ Hub

  • This session is designed for math and science teachers interested in introducing STEM projects in the classroom or in summer camps with and the TI-Innovator™ Hub and either TI-Nspire™ CX or TI-84 Plus CE technology.
  • Guide students on the path to building their own STEM projects with activities that challenge them to address current real-world issues.
  • Understand the science behind the greenhouse effect, and other science principles, and use math, computer programming and engineering to design and build models to solve current problems.
