2023 Virtual T³IC: AP® Calculus: Playing the Averages — Leveraging the Mean Value Theorems To Build Student Understanding

When: Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023
Technology: TI-Nspire™ CX II, TI-Nspire™ CX II CAS and TI-84 Plus CE graphing calculators
Presenters: Dennis Wilson, Kim Thomas

In calculus, students are introduced to the concept of instantaneous rate of change, maturing from slope between two points in an interval to the slope of the tangent line.

As students learn to think differently, they are confronted with the result of the mean value theorems ... that there is an instant when the value must be equivalent to the average.

In this session, we will explore ways to help students make connections between their understanding of averages and the concepts of calculus. We will use technology and activities that arise through the AP® Calculus curriculum.
