Teaching Topics Efficiently: Rates of Change From Algebra Through Calculus

When: Tuesday, January 11, 2022 | 7 p.m. Central time
Technology: TI-84 Plus family, TI-Nspire™ CX technology
Presenter: Corey Boby

The AP® Calculus course requires students to have an in-depth understanding of rate of change.

However, the foundation of the concept of rate of change should be introduced to students early in their mathematics education. Students’ understanding of rate of change should evolve all the way from middle school up to and including calculus.

In this webinar, the presenter, with expertise in algebra through AP® Calculus, will focus on using TI technology — both TI-84 Plus CE and TI-Nspire™ technology — to demonstrate how to:

  • Explore rate of change using numbers, tables, graphs and equations
  • Investigate and model applications of rate of change using TI technology
  • Appropriately integrate technology to enhance student understanding of rate of change at various levels

"I found the walk through [of] the different applications of both TI-84 and TI-Nspire™ [graphing calculators] very useful. (I) found new ways to integrate technology into the classroom and help students see what is happening mathematically to a graph." — Emma Spencer, Archdiocese of Seattle (Washington)
