Solution 36034: Troubleshooting The "Another Instance of TI-Nspire Navigator Teacher Software is Already Running" Error Message

How do I resolve the error message stating that "Another Instance of TI-Nspire Navigator Teacher Software is already running"?

If you are getting the error message "Another Instance of TI-Nspire Navigator Teacher Software is Already Running" when opening the TI-Nspire Navigator software, please follow the steps below.

If you already have a version of the TI-Nspire Navigator Teacher Software open (such as the CAS version, or any other version), please close the version that you have open. From there, try to relaunch the software.

Also, if the database location you are connecting to is being used by another computer, please follow these steps:

  • Close out of the TI-Nspire Navigator Teacher Software on the other computer.
  • Attempt to open the TI-Nspire Navigator Teacher Software on your computer.

Please Note: Only one computer can access a specific database at a time. So, launching TI-Nspire Navigator Teacher Software on multiple computers that point to the same database will yield this error.

Additional Note: If your TI-Nspire Navigator software was recently updated to 3.6, please visit Knowledge Base Solution 35834: Resolving Issues with Lost Settings During TI-Nspire™ Family Version 3.6 Upgrade. This particular Knowledge Base Article will help you migrate your settings from version 3.2 to version 3.6 of the TI-Nspire Navigator Teacher Software.

If you are still having the same error after going through the steps above, please head to the following location on your computer (depending upon which Computer Operating System you have):

Windows® XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\TI-Nspire NavTs\res

Windows® Vista/7/8:
C:\ProgramData\TI-Nspire NavTs\res

Mac® OS X®:
/Library/Application Support/TI-Nspire NavTs/res

  • Open the file Settings.Properties file in a standard non-formatting text editor, such as “Notepad” or “TextEdit”.
  • Within the settings.properties file, find the section for "database.path".
  • Change the database path to a different folder on the computer.
