How do I find common denominators on the TI-Nspire CAS family?

To find common denominators use the comDenom command on the TI-Nspire CAS. This command returns a reduced ratio of a fully expanded numerator over a fully expanded denominator. The syntax for comDenom is listed below.

 

comDenom (expression1 [, var])

The example below will demonstrate how to find common denominators of an expression.

ComDenom((y2 + y) /((x + 1)2) + y2 + y)

• Press [home].
• Press [A] or choose to add a Calculator App.

• Press [menu] [3] [9] [4].

• Press [ctrl] [fraction template]. This is the key that is activated by pressing [division].
• Press [Y] [x2] [+] [Y].
• Press [tab].
• Press [(] [X] [+] [1] [)] [x2] [)].
• Press [tab].
• Press [+] [Y] [x2] [+] [Y] [)].
• Press [enter].
