Solution 35854: Steps to Configure the Texas Instruments Settings.Properties and Deployment.Properties for use with TI-Nspire™ Family Software, TI-SmartView™ CE and TI-SmartView MathPrint.
How do I configure the Texas Instruments Settings.Properties and Deployment.Properties for use with TI-Nspire Family Software, TI-Smartview CE and TI-SmartView MathPrint
The settings.properties and deployment.properties files allow for configuration of TI-Nspire Family Software, TI-SmartView CE and TI-SmartView MathPrint.
TI-Nspire Family Software properties files: Windows or macOSTI-SmartView CE properties files: Windows or macOS
TI-SmartView MathPrint properties files: Windows or macOS
The first step to configure the file is to open the settings.properties and deployment.properties file in a standard non-formatting text editor such as “Windows® Only: Notepad” or “Mac® Only: TextEdit”.
Please Note: If opened in a word processor such as Microsoft® Word or iWork® Pages® additional formatting will be added that may cause the file to be detected incorrectly by the software.
Configuration changes are different depending on the type of license being used. Listed below are the license type and the configuration options available to that license type.
TI-Nspire CX Family Only:
allow.auto.upgrade
This parameter allows the software to communicate with the website upon launch to verify if there is a newer version available. If there is a new version available it will prompt to the user if they want to upgrade. This parameter must be set to TRUE or FALSE.
database.path
This parameter only applies to the software TI-Nspire Navigator™ Teacher Software and TI-Nspire Navigator Teacher Software for Network Computers. It allows you to change the location the software writes the class and portfolio database. This parameter must be set to a valid path, this path may use environment variables, but will not work with the tilde (~) character.
allow.analytics
This parameter set if anonymous information will be used by TI to improve the reliability and performance of this product and improve TI products to better meet customer needs. By setting the property allow.analytics to true, you agree to allow TI to automatically collect anonymous information about 1) product usage and 2) product reliability. This anonymous information will be used by TI to improve the reliability and performance of this product and improve TI products to better meet customer needs. The system TI uses to collect this data does not gather any personally identifiable information. TI will only use the data it gathers in this manner for the purposes described above. Note: Selecting true or false for this property will not display notification to the user. Leaving this unset will prompt each user to choose to opt-in or opt-out.
prefered.hosts
This parameter only applies to the software TI-Nspire Student Software and TI-Nspire CAS Student Software. It allows you to specify a specific IP Address and Port for the Teacher Computer for schools where Multicast is disabled when using TI-Nspire Navigator for Network Computers. This parameter must be set to a semicolon (;) delimited set of <Hostname or IP address>:<port>.
CXII-T_emulation.enabled
If set to true TI-Nspire CX II-T is emulated calculator if set to false TI-Nspire CX II is selected. If blank users is prompted to select at launch.
CXII-TCAS_emulation.enabled
If set to true TI-Nspire CX II-T CAS is emulated calculator if set to false TI-Nspire CX II CAS is selected. If blank users is prompted to select at launch.
testmode.configurations
Allows the user to preset Press-To-Test Configurations. For example testmode.configurations=<Configuration Name 1>[XXXX-XXXX],<Configuration Name 2>[XXXX-XXXX],...,<Configuration Name 9>[XXXX-XXXX].
Volume Subscription Only:
allow.subscription.warning
This parameter if set to [Yes] will warn the user when their
license is about to expire. If set to [No] the user will not receive a
warning before their license expires.
subscription.warning.days
This parameter allows the user to enter the amount of days the
software will wait before displaying that the license is about to
expire. The user can enter a date 1-31 days before the license expires.
For this parameter to work the parameter "allow.subscription.warning "
needs to be set to [YES]. This parameter must be set to a whole value
between 1 and 31.
subscription.warned.already
This parameter allows the user to hide the subscription warning dialog displaying remaining active time for a subscription license.
Concurrent License Only:
allow.license.borrow
When set to [Yes] allows a user to go to [Help] [Manage
Subscription] [Borrow License] in the TI-Nspire Family software to check
out a license to use off network. This takes a network license off
network that cannot be used by anyone else until it is returned. When
set to [No] this feature is disabled.
max.days.borrow.license
Allows you to set the borrow time in days the user is allowed
to borrow a license. This can be set any amount days from 1-365. In
order for this parameter to have an effect "allow.license.borrow" must
be set to Yes. This parameter must be set to a whole value between 1 and
365.
Concurrent and School Managed License:
license.server - license.server.2 - license.server.3
These parameters allows you to enter the [Hostname/IP address]
of the computer the TI-Admin Software is installed on for license
checkout. It is suggested to enter the hostname in license server 1 and
the IP address in the field license server 2 in case the hostname cannot
be resolved. This parameter must be set to a valid IPv4 IP address or
hostname.
Once you have decided what parameters you wish to edit, make your changes in your non formatting text editor and save the file.
Volume License:
For a volume license an additional file named deployment.properties is required to activate the software it has the below parameters:
deploy.log.dir
This parameter allows the software to change the location it
creates its deployment log which is a verification log for if the
deployment was successful. This parameter must be set to a valid path.
license.number
This parameter allows the user to enter their license number
for silent activation. This parameter must be set to a valid 31-Digit
license number.
activation.time.limit
This parameter allows the user to enter a delay before
attempting activation. The software will pick a time between 0 seconds
and the specified time up to 600 seconds. This is useful if deploying to
a large amount of users to conserve network bandwidth. This parameter
must be set to a whole value between 1 and 600.
After configuring the settings.properties and deployment.properties files use the steps below to use these files:
Once the above
files are configured place the files in the same
location as the installer before installing the software. After the installer runs it will copy the settings.properties or deployment.properties files to the correct location. Please note this copy step only works if the software has never been installed on this computer as the installer will not overwrite an existing settings.properties or deployment.properties files.
If the software is already installed you can the copy settings.properties and deployment.properties files to the below hidden location:
Windows®:
C:\ProgramData\[name of software]\res
macOS:
/Library/Application Support/[name of software]/res
To access the locations listed above please follow the steps below:
Windows®:
