How can I graph an inequality containing the absolute value on the TI-83 Plus and TI-84 Plus family of graphing calculators?

The instructions below demonstrate how to input and graph the abs( or absolute value function:

Example: Graph |2x+3|>9

• Press [Y=].
• Press [MATH].
• Scroll right to highlight NUM and press [1] to select abs(.





• Press [2]  [X,T,θ,n] [+] [3]. Next for the TI-84 Plus Family: Press [Right Arrow] to move to the right of the absolute value equation. For the the TI-83 Plus Family press [ ) ]. 



• Press [2ND] [TEST] [3] to select > then press [9]



• Press [Zoom] then press [6] to select ZStandard and the graph below should be displayed.
