Solution 34894: Answers Displaying in Scientific Notation When in Normal Mode on the TI-83 Plus and TI-84 Plus Family of Graphing Calculators.

Why do some answers display in Scientific notation instead of Normal notation with Normal mode selected on the TI-83 Plus and TI-84 Plus family of graphing calculators?

Notation Modes only effect the way answers are displayed. If the answer cannot be displayed in 10 digits or the absolute value is less than .001, it will default to Scientific Notation. This is a limitation of the TI-83 Plus and TI-84 Plus family of graphing calculators.

Example: enter in .0001 and 5000000000:

1) Press [.] [0] [0] [0] [1] [ENTER].
2) Press [5] [0] [0] [0] [0] [0] [0] [0] [0] [0] [ENTER].

Please see the TI-83 Plus and TI-84 Plus Family guidebooks for additional information.
