Solution 34615: Using the fMax Function on the TI-83 Plus and TI-84 Plus Family of Graphing Calculators.

How do I use the fMax function on the TI-83 Plus and TI-84 Plus family of graphing calculators?

The fMax function returns the value of variable where the local maximum of expression occurs, between lower and upper bounds, with specified tolerance. The syntax for the fMax is listed below.

fMax(expression, variable, lower, upper[,tolerance])

Example: Find the function maximum of sin(A), for the variable A, with for the lower bound and π for the upper bound.

1) From the main screen press [math] [7] to select 7: fMax(
2) Press [sin] [alpha] [math] [ ) ] [,] [alpha] [math] [,] [ (-) ] [2nd] [^] [,] [2nd] [^] [π] [ ) ] to enter sin(A), A, -π, π)
3) Press [enter] to display the results.

Please see the TI-83 Plus and TI-84 Plus Family guidebooks for additional information.
