Solution 11816: Displaying Answers as Surd Numbers on the TI-83 Family, TI-84 Plus Family or TI-Nspire™ Handheld in TI-84 Plus Mode.
Can I display answers as surd numbers on a TI-83 family, TI-84 Plus family or TI-Nspire handheld in TI-84 Plus mode?
The TI-83 family, TI-84 Plus family or TI-Nspire handheld in TI-84 Plus mode cannot express answers in surd form. Answers on each device will be expressed in decimal form only.
Note: A surd is a number or quantity that cannot be expressed as the ratio of two integers. The term also refers to a symbol that is sometimes used to indicate that the number or quantity that follows it is a root. The surd symbol (nth root), all by itself, indicates the square root (1/2 power). If the surd has a number x written ahead of it and over the horizontal portion, then the symbol refers to the xth root (1/x power) of that number.
Please see the TI-83 family and TI-84 Plus family guidebooks for additional information.
