Solution 12198: TI Graphing Calculators Not Allowed on the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Exams.

What calculators are no longer permitted for use on my NCEES exam?

National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying NCEES has enforced an existing policy that began with the April 2004 test administration. Currently, the board has specified that TI-30X and TI-36X models are approved and that any Texas Instruments calculator must contain either TI-30X or TI-36X in its model name. Several Texas Instruments graphing calculators will be forbidden, including the TI-89, TI-89 Titanium, TI-92, TI-92 Plus, Voyage™ 200, TI-83 Plus, TI-83 Plus Silver Edition, TI-84 Plus, and TI-84 Plus Silver Edition, TI-Nspire™ and TI-Nspire™ CAS. Texas Instruments has been assured that this is an issue of test security and not one of product quality.

Texas Instruments is not currently working on a graphing calculator specifically for NCEES. While new products will continue to be introduced, they will continue to have the text entry and communication capability that NCEES has disallowed. Please see the calculator policy for additional information.

NOTE: Each year, NCEES will review and revise the approved calculator list and then announce the updated list by November 15.
