Solution 14850: Calculating Secant, Cosecant and Cotangent Trigonometric Functions on the TI-36X Solar.

How do I calculate secant, cosecant and cotangent trigonometric functions on the TI-36X Solar?

While the current line of Texas Instruments scientific calculators have the ability to perform many wonderful tasks, built in secant, cosecant, or cotangent trigonometric functions as separate keys are not included in their list of features. The properties of trigonometric functions must be used to calculate measurements using the inverse trig functions.

Cosecant(x) = csc(x) = 1/sin(x)
Secant(x) = sec(x) = 1/cos(x)
Cotangent(x) = cot(x) = 1/tan(x)

The example below will demonstrate the use of these properties on the TI-36X Solar.

Example: Solve for the Cosecant of 31.67 degrees.

**Be sure the calculator is set to Degree mode before beginning. Press the [DRG] key, move the cursor under 'DEG', and press [=].**

Enter 31.67, press [SIN] [1/x] to solve.

This will return 1.904667232... as the cosecant of 31.67 degrees.
