Solution 12324: Solving Equations Using the TI-30X IIB / TI-30X IIS.

How can I solve equations using the TI-30X IIB / TI-30X IIS?

The TI-30X IIB / TI-30X IIS do not have the functionality for solving equations. The variables on these calculators are solely for memory purposes, which can be incorporated into Algebra by storing values to the variables, then using the variables to solve the equation.

For Example: Solve the equation 2X^2+5X+3=0

First, store value of coefficients of the expression to memory variables:
Store 2 to A
1) Input 2 and press [STO>] [=].
Store 5 to B
2) Input 5, press [STO>] using right cursor scroll to B, and press [=].
Store 3 to C
3) Input 3, press [STO>] using right cursor scroll to C, and press [=].

Now, solve the expression using the quadratic formula:
1) Press [ ( ] [(-)] [MEMVAR] using right cursor scroll to B and press [=].
2) Press [+] [ ( ] then [MEMVAR] using right cursor scroll to B and press [=] [X2] [-].
3) Input 4, press [MEMVAR] [=] [MEMVAR] using right cursor scroll to C, and press [=] [ ) ] [ ) ].
4) Press [÷].
5) Input [ ( ] [2] and press [MEMVAR] [=] [ ) ].
6) Press [=] again for the first solution which is -1.

Please Note: To solve for the second solution, in step 2, instead of using the [+] key, use the [-] or subtraction key. Second solution is -1.5.
