How do I perform number base conversions on the TI-89 family, TI-92 family, and Voyage 200 graphing calculators?

The examples below will demonstrate how to perform number base conversions on the TI-89 family, TI-92 family, and Voyage 200.

Please Note: The Exact/Approx mode setting should be either AUTO or EXACT.

Example 1: Convert 44 from Decimal to Hexadecimal

Solution:
1) Input 44.
2) Press [2nd] [MATH] [ALPHA] [E] [3] (the screen will show 44>Hex).
3) Press [ENTER] to display the results.

Example 2: Convert 44 from Decimal to Binary

Solution:
1) Input 44.
2) Press [2nd] [MATH] [ALPHA] [E] [4] (the screen will show 44>Bin).
3) Press [ENTER] to display the results.

Example 3: Convert 101100 from Binary to Hexadecimal

Solution:
1) Input 0b (zero [ALPHA] [b]) to denote that you are entering a number that is in binary.
2) Input 101100.
3) Press [2nd] [MATH] [ALPHA] [E] [3] (the screen will show 0b101100>Hex).
4) Press [ENTER] to display the results.

Example 4: Convert 2c from Hexadecimal to Binary

Solution:
1) Input 0h2c.
2) Press [2nd] [MATH] [ALPHA] [E] [4] (the screen will show 0h2c>Bin).
3) Press [ENTER] to display the results.

Please Note: The TI-92 does not have the base conversion function built into it but the function can be added through a function. Please see page 344 of the TI-92 Plus guidebook.
