Circular Functions

Published on 07/30/2005

Activity Overview

In this activity, students find intercepts of circular function graphs. They also investigate the characteristics of such graphs.

Before the Activity

  • Download TI Connect™ using the TI Connectivity Cable
  • See the attached PDF file for detailed instructions for this activity
  • Print page 1 from the attached PDF file for the class
  • During the Activity

Distribute the page to the class.

    Follow the Activity procedures:

  • Use the calculator to sketch the graphs of two trigonometric functions for one period
  • Combine the two functions and plot the resulting function
  • Find the amplitude and period of this graph
  • Determine the x- and y-intercepts
  • Use the sine regression to find the curve that best fits the data
  • After the Activity

Students answer the questions on the activity sheet.

    Review student results:

  • As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
  • Re-teach concepts as necessary
