## Skip Counting--2/8, 4/8, 6/8, 8/8, Who Do We Appreciate This Time?

#### Activity Overview

In this activity, students investigate skip counting to complete patterns with fractions. They also develop skills to add fractions.

#### Before the Activity

• Access the NUMLINE application and select the Fraction Line option
• See the attached PDF file for detailed instructions for this activity
• Print pages 41 - 43 from the attached PDF file for your class

#### During the Activity

Distribute the pages to the class.

• Set up the number line to Start at a fraction and set the Step value to a fraction
• Observe the first few terms in the sequence on the number line
• Change the Start value to zero and observe the new terms in the sequence
• Repeat the activity with other Start and Step values
• Observe that some patterns have mixed fractions and whole numbers
• Use the NUMLINE application to complete patterns with mixed fractions as Step values
• #### After the Activity

Students complete the Student Activity sheet.

Review student results:

• As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
• Re-teach concepts as necessary
