Students use the Manual-Fit and Linear Regression commands to find lines of best fit to model Olympic data.
Compare manual lines of best fit to calculator generated regression lines. First students create a scatter plot of Olympic 100M dash data for men and women.
Using the Manual-Fit command, students will draw a line of best fit based on sight. They will use this line to predict future times.
Then, students use the Linear Regression command to compare the line they originally found to the linear regression the calculator finds. Students will hypothesize why the two equations differ.
