Activity Overview
This activity asks the students who originally wrote the free write exercises to read both copies of the work from their editors and to then compare and contrast all three compositions.
Before the Activity

Print the appropriate pages from the Activity for your class.
Install the LearningCheck™ and NoteFolio™ Apps on the students' graphing calculators following the attached instructions.
During the Activity
Distribute the appropriate pages from the Activity to your class
Distribute the NoteFolio file(s) to your class using TI Connect™ and the appropriate TI Connectivity cable
Follow the procedures outlined in the Activity
Students will:
Practice their writing fluency during a series of free writing activities.
Understand what the writing process entails as well as the importance of the writing process in improving a piece of work.
Strengthen their revision skills.
Refresh their memories about the definitions and roles of verbs, adjectives, and adverbs.
Recognize the relationship between choice of language and audience response.
Strengthen their vocabularies by generating vocabulary alternatives.
Exercise ability to more effectively apply different figures of speech such as personification, similes, and metaphors.
Work effectively with other students.
Make productive use of peer feedback.
Assess how their own pieces of writing changed by carefully attending to language use.
After the Activity
When the assessment file is complete, all students should submit the file to the teacher's computer. Use the TI-Navigator™ system or the TI Connectivity cable to collect the files. Student should also turn in the printout with their original work and the revisions done by their partners. The teacher can use these printouts and the assessment file to evaluate the work done by all students.
