This activity introduces students to the concept of collecting and analyzing data and using conjectures to formulate new questions.
In this activity, students will collect data points of volunteers estimating a given distance. They will set up a histogram and see how the data is normally distributed about the mean.
Students will then conduct an experiment regarding memorizing lists of 2 to 12 random numbers. They will record their data, compute the average, collect their class data, then set up a scatter plot to look for patterns. Then the class will discuss methods for improving or extending their experiments.
