Activity Overview
Students will collaborate systematically to write a draft of a poem using literary devices and poetic elements (LC/PE). A chain of writers will contribute to the poem. Each student will be responsible for starting and finishing a poem.
Before the Activity
See the attached Activity PDF file for detailed instructions for this activity.
Print the appropriate pages from the Activity for your class.
Install the NoteFolio™ App on the students' graphing calculators following the attached instructions.
Tell students that Activity 2 will be similar to Activity 1, though more creatively demanding. Students will need to prepare their devices by closing the NoteFolio file created in Activity 1 and then opening a new, untitled file. Use the instructions from Activity 1 to open a new, untitled file.
During the Activity
Distribute the appropriate pages from the Activity to your class
Distribute the NoteFolio(tm) file(s) to your class using TI Connect™ and the appropriate TI Connectivity cable
Follow the procedures outlined in the Activity
Students will:
Identify the devices an author uses to influence readers and critique the effectiveness of their use.
Write for a variety of readers, including peers, teachers, and other adults, adapting content, style, and structure to audience and situation.
Write in a variety of situations (impromptu, over time, in collaboration or alone) and adapt strategies, such as revision, technology, and the use of reference materials, to the situation.
Recognize and exercise options in modes of expression and choice of words when speaking and writing, especially when revising written work.
After the Activity
Tell students they will be finishing the poem and sharing it with the class the next day in class.
