Activity Overview
Students use the calculator to improve number sense and place value skills. They use the Math by Hand application to go step-by-step through multiplication problems. They also insert numbers into the missing places to complete problems.
Before the Activity
Install the Math by Hand App application on the calculator using the
TI Connect™
, TI Connectivity Cable, and Unit-to-Unit Link Cable
Set up the calculator as explained in the appendix file
See the attached activity PDF file for detailed instructions for this activity
Print the pages from the attached activity PDF file for the class
During the Activity
Distribute the pages to the class.
Follow the Activity procedures:
Select the multiplication operation and choose the appropriate mode
Enter a multiplicand and a multiplier
Observe the steps on the calculator and find the product
Missing Pieces game:
Select the subtraction operation
Press the game function key
Enter the correct number in the blanks to make the problem true
Record the scores and continue playing the game
After the Activity
Review student results:
As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
Re-teach concepts as necessary
