In this activity, students will gather data by recording estimates of how long they think they can hold their breath and the actual amount of time. Then, they will create scatter plots and box plots to analyze the data.
Students will gather data and then plot scatter plots and box plots to analyze the data. First, students will estimate the time they can hold their breaths, measure the actual time they can hold their breaths, and create a scatter plot of L1 (estimate) versus L2 (actual).
Then, students will investigate the XY-line through discussing how the scatter plot would change if the actual and estimated values were identical.
Finally, students will create box plots to compare the data and draw conclusions.
